In the Fall of 2006 I taught CG-310 - Animation 1 in the Department of Digital Arts at
Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.

  • The students were sophomores that were taking this class in conjunction with a modeling
course. Both served as their first exposure to Autodesk's Maya software in their 4 year
    digital arts program.

  • It was a 3 hour course, once a week, over the span of 15 weeks.

  • This was strictly an animation course that occasionally delved into aspects of rigging,
demo reels, storyboarding, and a general overview of the computer graphics industry.

  • The class started out with basic scene setups, animation techniques, the bouncing ball
animation exercise, pose to pose exercises, walk-cycles, lip-syncing, and finished off
with a full character animated clip that includes lip-syncing.

In the summer of 2006 I taught an intense 4 week Computer Animation Maya Training
Course at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

  • The course was identical to the course described below from September 2005.
With the exception that all students were still in high school and heading into
their sophomore, junior, or senior year.

In September of 2005 I taught an intense 4 week Computer Animation Maya Training Course
at the New York Film Academy in Union Square, NYC.

  • Students had no prior training in Computer Animation.

  • The goal of the course is to complete your first animated short film in just 4 weeks.

  • Students were taught story development, storyboarding, modeling, texturing, lighting,
rigging, animation, rendering, sound, and video editing among other things.

  • In order to accomplish this, they had the daunting task of not just learning and applying
Alias Maya software in a short period of time, but also Photoshop, After Effects, and Adobe Premiere.

  • Classes were held on Monday thru Friday from 9am to 5pm.

  • Teacher Assistants were available to students during and after class (including weekends)
